I finally went to Superskills!

I went to Canucks Superskills today for the first time ever! It was awesome. I was in the lower bowl, row 4, exept there were no other rows in front because that was where the camera man and zamboni entrance was ... so no heads in my way which was fantastic.

Dan Murphy (host for Canucks broadcasts) came by during the Canucks Alumni game. My dad said, "Oh, isn't that a familiar guy" and Murphy turned around and said hi to all of us.

The camera man also zoomed in on my brothers and I. So I got to see myself on the huge brand new scoreboard. That was definitely cool.

I guess I won't go into the details about the rest of the event, since I know over half the people reading this don't care and you can watch it on TV this Tuesday anyways.

Before we left, an Orca Bay worker gave me a piece from one of the targets they used in the accuracy competition. You can bet, I will never throw that away.

To the left is a photo I took of Alexandre Burrows. I'll try to put up more photos later. I must say my new camera is much more enjoyable to take photos with than my old one.

Sports Day

Well, I put the Sports Day pictures up here. The quality isn't the best because MSN is annoying, I don't know why they have to compress photos on here so much, when I already shrunk them down tons... oh well, end of rant. So the BC Lions were having one of their training camp sessions at the same time our school was at the stadium, which was cool. After practice two of the BC Lions, Kidd and Simon, came over to where some students were throwing javelin... and they took a few throws. I got some photos of them during this special event too. That was definatly the highlight of the day. ;) I also participated in the Fashion Show and in the Photo Club Salon Competion last week. Both went well. One of my photo's placed third out of 39 images, so I was very pleased about that and there is also someone who wants to buy a print of that photo, which is really neat for me too. So, last week was great!

I Hate Titles

Hey, I haven’t written here in so long, over a month now. Hmm... what to talk about. Well, in case you don’t know, last week I turned seventeen and my art teacher called me an old lady for the week. lol. Well tomorrow, I hand in my final three pictures for the last photo competition. On Friday I will find out my scores and find out if I pass the photo club level one, if I do, I will get a medal. Oh how exciting. :P Another thing exciting, still a ways away, Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest! I have been waiting for this for years (literally lol) and July 7 sounds so soon now! A new full length trailer was recently released and you can watch it HERE. I suggest you do. ;)  I also added some new pictures from the movie on here too.

OK, you knew it was coming. Do I ever write a blog without talking about hockey? *smiles big* Remember how I said it would be great to see a Canadian team win the cup? Well not if their name is the Oilers! Sorry, cannot cheer for a Division rival. Ottawa is out now, so I have no idea who to cheer for. I will just cheer against the Oilers and laugh at their mistakes. I know, its somewhat immature, but I can’t entirely give up watching hockey just because the Canucks are out. To think about it though, usually whichever team I cheer for loses. Maybe its selfish of me to be a Canucks fan, maybe if I wasn’t they would win the Stanley Cup.

Anyways, enough of that nonsense. Next year I don’t want to see Weinrich or Carney back, they were more of temporary replacements for Vancouver’s key injured defensemen. I wouldn’t really care if Cloutier of Park didn’t come back next year either. I’m excited about seeing the highly rated Luc Bourdon play for us. This reminds me of the NHL draft in Vancouver, June 24. I want to go so badly. Tickets are only $5 each. I know some say its boring and more interesting to watch on TV with all the statistics and info on the players, but its somewhat conveniently in Vancouver and it would be cool experience to look back on, at least for me.

Go Senators *sigh*

At last another break from school and I have some time to spill out some thoughts. The last two weeks were pretty busy with school assignments and tests. I basically only had time for homework and of course I fit the Canuck games in. Hopefully sometime soon the weather will get better and I can take some pictures. Alright enough whatever talk, now to what you know I really wanted to talk about . . .

So the Canucks playoff hopes were affirmatively shattered Thursday night. It totally sucks, but they weren’t playing like the rest of the teams in the playoff run. It sucks looking at the standings now, currently one point back of Edmonton’s secured playoff thinking if only we won just a few more games we would be in. Anyways, I’m sure I could rattle of a ton of "ifs" but those are irrelevant now. At least we ended the frustrating season with a win. Although ... I had to roll my eyes when the Avs tied the game, that all looked way too familiar. When the "three brothers line" was on the ice looking to tie up the game, I said show us what you’ve been doing all season long, and Carter answered with a game-saving goal with 43 seconds left :D. I’m pretty eager to see Edmonton play Detroit. Nothing would make me happier than seeing them smoked 4-0 by the Wings. I guess I will be rooting for the Sens, it would be great to see a Canadian team take the Cup. It’s hard to be as emotionally involved cheering for the Sens because I haven’t gone through the highs and lows with the team, etc, it will be nothing like cheering for the Canucks, that’s for sure. This is actually the first year as a diehard fan, I’ve experienced the Canucks not making the playoffs, so we’ll see how I survive. Anyways, I was going to write some thoughts about Bertuzzi and the rest of the team signings, but it’s kinda late, so I’ll save that for another time.

Photo Crazy Spring Break!

Hey, it’s been a bit since I’ve updated so I thought I would now before Spring Break is over. Last week my Hotmail/MSN account was hacked, but thankfully that’s all resolved now. Today I rented the new release of Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightley and enjoyed it. I haven’t been overly busy this break, just going out on simple shopping trips with my mom and relaxing around the house. This Sunday my dad drove me out to Columbia Valley and Cultus Lake so I could take some pictures. I’m growing quite bored of taking pictures in our yard, especially since there aren’t that many flowers blooming yet and our yard somewhat lacks photo subjects. (Sometimes I miss our old house in the country...) So it was great to get out there for a change of scenery and get some decent shots. Well, that’s all I can think of to say for now. Here are some photos I've taken over the break...

Nonis Adds Experienced Defence and Goalie

Well, there’s not too much to complain about today other than the Canucks gave up a point in overtime which is becoming more and more crucial as we near the playoffs. My dad went to the game tonight along with his friend who generously let me go to the game in December with my dad, so I was quite disappointed they couldn’t witness a Canucks victory. My dad called me at intermission and told me he was shown on the screen TV in GM Place for the national anthem waving his Canucks jersey and jumping. That’s awesome! Too bad, Sportsnet puts on commercials during the anthem so I didn’t get to see him.

I was really glad to see Mattias Ohlund back in the lineup after missing four games since the Olympic break. The Sedin-Carter line played awesome as usual and were accountable for Vancouver’s two goals. The Sedin Twins have combined for nine points in there last three games and Carter has scored in three consecutive games. Incredible! Nashville really came on in the third period, particularly after some time on the powerplay. David Legwand put the game away just six seconds into overtime, leaving Vancouver with the lone point.

Now on a more positive note. I came home from school and was delightfully shocked to see all the players Nonis acquired announced on TSN! I, probably along with many other fans, were definitely not expecting that much from our GM. The part that surprised me more was Nonis addressed pretty much everything (goaltending and defence) with barely giving up anything. I was a little disappointed to see Steve McCarthy go because he was just stepping up his game and everything. . . I kinda feel bad for him. So Nonis added Keith Carney, Sean Brown, and Eric Weinrich to add some experience to our young defense and Mika Noronen as a backup for Alex Auld. I look forward to seeing the new defensemen play and I can’t wait to see Vancouver’s defense with Ed Jovanovski (even though I’m not that fond of him) and Sami Salo back in the lineup.

A Cat's Diary:

Day 183 of my captivity. My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am orced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of ecape, and the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant.

Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded - must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair - must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear in their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not working according to plan.

There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured.

But I can wait; it is only a matter of time.

It works!!!! For now. . .

It has nearly been a month since I have written and it’s killing me! I have no idea why this is working just now, but I’m glad it is. I emailed MSN about the problem and they better fix it! Well, what do I write about? There was exam week, then I got sick, Olympics began, photo competion, then I got report cards and here I am now mourning for A) Canada’s mens hockey team B) Math test tomorrow. It hasn’t all been bad though. I won a first place in the photo competion for my self-portrait photo and I had a good report card with three A’s and a B (French– surprise, surprise). Canada lost to the "Ovs" (aka Russians), but at least Sweden is still in the run for Gold. It seems nearly half the Canucks are Swedish so I can’t help but cheer for the Swedes and of course, Finland for Salo and Ruutu! Honestly, who doesn’t love Ruutu? Haha, everyone who isn’t Finnish or a Canucks fan. . . Anyways, I love watching the Olympics and not just the hockey, basically everything except curling and luge. Curling is too slow and lifeless and for luge, the cameras switching views drives me crazy! Well, maybe I will hit publish before it freezes and have another look over my Math notes. Goodnight all!

Canucks Drop Dreary Slump

Some game thoughts from me tonight. Tonight’s game was sure a pleasure to watch. First off, Auld was outstanding. He proved solid in net while the Canucks were outshot 35-15. (I assume a large portion of those shots came in the second period). I was starting to worry when the Avs opened the scoring on the powerplay, something the Canucks particularly supposed to avoid tonight. . . but then Ohlund scored shorthanded! At the end of the second, Bertuzzi was slashed by Liles who got away with no call, and those classy Colorado fans cheered as Bertuzzi skated to the bench holding his hand in pain. Now this was just fantastic from the Canucks, we score! Oh, it felt so good. Ha, those stupid fans! We shut them up with a goal. Way to go Ruutu! 2-1 Canucks. Kesler looked to have sealed the deal, after scoring halfway into the third, making it 3-1, but Colorado tied the game up. And what was with that stupid fan throwing something at Bertuzzi from behind? Cheap shot. . . :P I was kind of annoyed they weren’t sent out, oh well, it’s Colorado. I was also annoyed that CBC lost the feed of the game in the last minutes! Thank goodness for CKNW. Auld played flawless in OT and the shootout and it was great to see Ruutu score in his first shootout appearance with a nifty deke on Aebischer. It’s kind of funny, whenever I joke around during the game and say, "Ruutu couldn’t score if his life depended on it," he scores. Ahhh, I love Ruutu. I’ve been singing his song all night . . . "Ruutu Ruutu, Rocks it like U2" by Heavy Eric. If you haven’t heard it, you can listen to it along with a ton of other Canuck songs here.

 Final Score: Canucks 4 - Avalanche 3

Next Game: Canucks @ Phoenix

Le français est fini!

The feeling is incredible! I’m done semester two, and more important I just completed the last French class of my life! It feels so triumphal to have completed French 11. I questioned every year whether I would take the next grade of French and always persevered to the next torturous grade in regret. Now, it’s all done though! I have my credits for a second language to get into university and I am glad I did ended up sticking through French. All that remains in French 11 is the exam. That’s what remains for all my first semester courses. My schools exam schedules are all messed up because of the teacher strike incident, so we are having a week of semester two classes, and then one day of semester one review, and then the exams. It’s really messed up, oh well. We’re not supposed to be assigned any homework through the week so that’s a plus.

Now, this three day weekend lies before me with no obligations of any sort. I will finally have time to take some pictures for the upcoming photo competition (the topic is self-portrait), hopefully the weather cheers up around here so I can take some outside. I also look forward to writing some more Canuck game blogs (seeing that my last one was dated twelve days ago!). Today I can actually watch the Canuck game, without studying for a test at the same time! Hmm, today is such a special day. It marks the end of French and exactly one month since I attended my first Canucks game!
